The Children Detention Schools under the auspices of the Department of Justice Equality & Law Reform and within the legal framework of the Children Act 2001 provide Care, Education and Rehabilitation in residential setting ranging from open to secure.

Trinity House School as one of the Children Detention Schools caters specifically for young males between 12-16 years within a secure environment.

The young people placed in Trinity House School will be able to work alongside the staff team in order to acquire individual care and educational programmes to develop each young person in terms of their physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs and their potentialities.

For this to be achieved the multi-disciplinary team who work with the young people develop trusting supportive relationships which seek to understand and challenge the origins of their unacceptable behaviour and strive towards achieving a positive future.  Inherent in this is that the Schools should not simply focus on the presenting behaviours, but view each young person as a whole.

Many of the problems that bring young people to the attention of the courts and other authorities reflect their previous life experiences.  Some young people may have been exposed to or experienced various forms of abuse.

Every effort will be made to ensure that they are not exposed to any such risks within the residential schools.

The provisions of this document do not encroach upon the responsibilities of the Department of Justice Equality & Law Reform, Board of Management, Directors and the Irish Youth Justice Service in ensuring the protection of children.
